cute overload

Since my last post a week ago I have acquired not only a car (the VW Golf I mentioned) and an apartment (this cute studio by South Congress, it's in a janky peach colored building from the '70s and totally my steez) but a job waiting tables with my bestfriend Drew. Wahoo! Now if I can only get my candle making supplies down here and get Pommes Frites' etsy up an runnin...

In my quest to play the best game of house ever, I've been cruising for some cute housewares.

I actually already own this spoon, which I got at TopShop two years ago, but hey, now they're selling it (online only) across the pond at Urban Outfitters.

Maybe you know this, maybe you don't, but I'm obsessed with all things heart shaped, and that includes this little doody. I own this too (surprise!) because of a trip to some campy general store, but now you can own it via Fred Flare. Make your eggs into the cutest breakfast in bed ever.

Speaking of breakfast in bed, what better way to spill the love beans than on a piece of toast?

who says you have to sacrifice adorability for functionality?

My favorite ice cube tray will always be the little hearts that are sold at Ikea, but adding some bling to your drink takes a close second.

I saved the best for last. A large skillet (with a lid!) adorned with a panda face? It's cuter than a basket full of kitties.

i miss...

today was my second day spent car shopping, and geez... this is difficult! All that haggling and test driving (ok, to be fair, I have only test-driven two adorable 2003 VW Golfs, but I did haggle for a combined 3 hrs) has amounted to nothing. I've been a bit stir crazy... I miss walking everywhere! Since I am currently jobless, carless and apartmentless (I think I'm hearing back today on a cute efficiency, however) I don't have much to do aside from watch movies, or hope that someone will want to get coffee or margaritas.

Now, although not a super speedy walk, I could walk downtown from where I am, or over to the South Congress area, but today is a dreary rainy day that allows nothing aside from the aforementioned movie watching.

Anyway, this car shopping exhaustion makes me miss my bike terribly. Oh my sweet pink bike.

I wish I had just went ahead and shipped it to Austin like I was planning, but see, to dissemble/ship the bike would have probably cost about as much as a new bike. It's not a super high class bike (it's a Murray, which is like bo-bo Schwinn) but geez look at that cuteness. Hot pink cruiser. Can a girl ask for more? Yes. I'm asking for that beauty to be in Texas.

mustachios for everyone

I may have raved before about Ashley G - I have two of her prints and constantly restrain myself not to buy more. She does a "Hello" print series every month, donating $5 of the proceeds to a charity. This month's charity is Conservation International. This months print is the most adorable yet - I say that every month but really, will ya look at that?

Drew agrees it would make an excellent Halloween costume.

on target

The release of a new designer-colloboration "Go" collection from Target usually generates a flurry of excited fashion blog entries and leaked pictures, but often the collection in person leaves something to be desired. I didn't see much press on the Jovovich-Hawk collection, and in fact, didn't even know when it was coming out save for a call from my bestfriend in New York, who arrived early at the Target in Brooklyn to nab up a few pieces. (she said by the time she was done two hours later almost everything was gone.)

Being in Virginia at the time, I knew my competition was limited so I cruised over there to check it out myself. As a whole it's super earthy-70s garden party garb, which I can go for in the summer. And seeing as how I'm now in Texas (whee!), my "summer" is about to start. I picked up these two dresses:

but also loved some ruffle-edged denim short shorts. Luckily, the Target in Austin seems to have a steady supply...

As always, the sizing is strange and the construction can be questionable, but so far, these little summer dresses are getting me stoked for the warm weather. As if I needed an excuse.

in-betweeners

Somewhere between my old life (New York) and my new (Austin), I find my self sorting through my very-old life (Virginia).

I have always been an avid collector.. this is from my grandmother via my mother, who collected everything from Aersoles to thimbles to commemorative plates. Remember the awesome kitchy-ness of the beach house? During my childhood, I collected dolls, shotglasses (heh heh), floaty pens (ok that's more of a collection now), but my crowning glory was my keychain collection.

Upon cleaning out my closet (giving away nearly all of the clothes in there that I haven't worn in over four years) I stumbled upon this collection again, housed on two massive key rings. My dad traveled a lot when I was younger and always brought me back a keychain from his travels. Plus, any place I went had got a keychain, and then there were the random, 50-cent additions from the grocery store and my basketball photos. If you'd like to get a sense of how many keychains are actually on there, take a look at the rings themselves. Scary. (and people thought the currently keys I have - a neon spiral-cord with sparkly heart-shaped keychains - were scary. what?? I lose my keys everday!)

I was also delighted when I found these CDs, which I stole from my sister when I was twelve:

sometimes I am embarrassed of/for my music taste when I was a teenager, but not this time. As good as ever.
