readymade

This tear is from the Aug/Sept issue of ReadyMade magazine. It's the Philly live/work loft of a couple (they are artists, whodathunk?). Either way, I am jealous, of the wood floors, and also their ability to make an (otherwise) insane collection of knick-knacks look cute.

However, you could definitely copy emulate their style on cheap... here goes:

I love the gingham bedspread (which could be made easily and for little money, especially if the fabric's on sale), but the little stump will win me over any day. Something similar could be purchased from my imaginary boyfriend. As for the horse collection, thrift stores, obviously. Just make sure the hair's not too natty on them.

I always wonder if people's houses are really this clean and neatly (but still casually) arranged. Either way, that sweet "we are so good together" poster can be purchased for $30 at i am still alive. The owl could be made again on the cheap by buying a plastic owl at a hardware or garden supply store and painting it white. my guess is they run around $15, plus the cost of paint. (now i wish i hadn't left my plastic owl in brooklyn, but seriously i had to cut corners some way). same goes for the plant.

On another note, my houseplants have been oddly flourishing outside as of late, despite the summer heat, due in part to my neighbor taking pity on me and watering them (and bringing one back to life!) and me feeding them coffee grounds (because sed neighbor stopped watering them. what did i do?!?) I'd like to bring them inside, but they're covered in spiders.

you've gone too far

seriously american apparrel?

here is the infamous chain's newest addition the "afrika" print. i get the whole early '90s thing is coming back/came back - who knows, but that's just ugly! i'm not sure whether to be offended or repulsed, but i'm settling for both.

amusing myself more than anyone else

at my new job as a gallery attendant at Art House, I'm allowed to read books or work on the comp or cross stitch - it can be quiet sometimes. So in my downtime I've been working on this:

They play on an idea Suzanne and I had to take pictures of our pillows in strange places - we like to think of them as little people. i plan on making more images... if and only if because they make Suze and I laugh. Any takers?

now this is happening

i've been totally absent from this blog, as happens every three posts or so partially because i'm convinced my reading audience is maybe six people (hi mom!) and partially because, as always, i have been busy, what with starting the small business, (make that two), starting a new job and taking a short story workshop through UT, and also i have a new addition to my personal life in the form of a boyfriend. i feel odd blogging about a new boyfriend, but he is awesome and probably does not read this.

also, my birthday happened. i'm now 23 and in honor i threw a tie dye/board game/pizza party. here are some pictures...

tie dye

mine is the crappy one two from the left. unfortunately (maybe fortunately? it's kinda ugly) it didn't make it through the night, that is to say, i will never wear it again except as a night shirt because of certain things certain people wrote/drew on it. lylas!

here is the cake suzanne made for me:
