etsy find: best fwends!

no not the band, but this adorable card.

I think I bought this card at sprout home in Brooklyn - although I may have bought it at the Bust Craftacular. Can't remember. I bought it, however, for my best friend Heather! (I don't think she reads this anymore considering I accidentally didn't update for three months.)

It's from a seller called the great lakes, and I managed to find their site on etsy and matched it to the logo on the back of the card. They no longer sell this particular card, but they do have some pretty cute ones. They are all super dreamy and romantic. Click on the pictures for links to the listing...

the selby

I only recently discovered the selby and I am totally enthralled. I have spent hours perusing this website, gazing at the glimpses inside people's awesome houses. Of course I have always been obsessed with looking at people's houses (when I was young I used to stare at the JC Penney catalog and cut out beds and dressers and rearrange them on pieces of construction paper), and I love websites like design sponge and the like, but what I like most about the selby is the messiness of people's lives. People don't clean up for the photographer, nor do they arrange things in a aesthetically "design magazine" way. If only my house could look this effortlessly dishelved.

I especially loved the recent aaron rose. here's a few reasons why...

to polaroid or not to polaroid

I used to have a polaroid camera and it has given me some amazing shots over the years.. these would not be the same taken with a digital camera, or even a point and shoot. But, needless to say, the camera took an unfortunate tumble one time (I'm so damn clumsy) and never recovered.

But ok, I kind of want one again. I've been doing some searching online, and I really love this old school polaroid camera... pink and grey with a matching case!

But if I got a polaroid then I'd have to pay for film. And that's extremely expensive.

What about these lomo/diana cameras? They are all over the fredflare and urban outfitters pages so I'm assuming that's the kids are using these days (haha!) although I don't actually know anyone who owns one. But I kinda want one of those too, because of the lo-fi, straight outta the '70s shots it takes. However, what about the cost of the film and the processing?

What's a girl to do? Does anyone have one or know of someone who does?

sneak peak + updates

I have finally added some pin packs to the pommesfrites shop. They are some of my favorites - big cats, chain links, cute rodents. I'm selling 3 pins for $2.50.

I also did a test run of a new candle scent last night - Pumpkin Souffle. Yeah, yeah, the name isn't great, but the candle smells delicious. I got these great glasses from a thrift store that are adorned with a handpainted dog (puppy!!!) I will be listing these in the shop ASAP, and you can choose between the pumpkin scent and cinnamon stick scent, or, if you're really in the holiday mood, a Christmas-y Mistletoe scent.

sorry for this crappy photo... it was late!

custom order

Haunted Housewares has a customizable pillow option and I wanted to give you an idea of what that could look like...

a custom order Texas pillow with a heart approximately at Grand Prairie, Tx (which is outside Dallas). You can opt for the heart at whatever city you like, or a star at the state capital. We try to pick the best plaid for the state, but if you'd like a specific sort of color tone (ie: bright, neutral), let us know in the message to seller and we will try to accommodate. We can make all of the continental US + Alaska. Purchase a custom pillow here.

extreme swimming

these pictures are from victoria's falls, yes the biggest waterfall in the world, in zimbabwe.

this naturally formed pool, right on the edge of a 420 ft waterfall, is known as the devil's swimming pool, and in september and december it is actually possible to swim to the edge of this fall. why? the rock wall that is right under the surface stops swimmers from going over when the water is low enough (hence only two months out of the year). I'm sure the first people who were brave enough to figure out you could swim here were considered demi gods.

Etsy Finds: Twin Peaks

I was recently turned on to the glory that is Twin Peaks. For those of you in Tx, I am referring to the early 90's David Lynch series, not the restaurant. In honor, I have collected a few favorites from etsy that showcase the lasting effect of this show.

I love this Log Lady print by seasprayblue.

This Twin Peaks pin pack (15 for $10) from mandhandled is a lot of bang for your buck.

I like these very pretty card packs from Greenwich Letter
Press
, which are written in the style of Agent Dale Cooper's tape recorded notes to his secretary, Diane. (although, they are not actually about Twin Peaks, but instead inspired by the shop's Manhattan surroundings.)

yrs truly

kimberly of chez sucre chez tagged me to do one of those seven random facts-about-yourself thingy-doos so here goes:

1. I just recently got a french press (thanks tom) and am worried I don't have the patience to make coffee like this. however, I'm one of those people that has to drink coffee in the morning (read: addicted) so i better learn fast.

2. I love watching ghost hunters and other ghost shows because despite the fact that I don't believe in much, I do believe in ghosts.

3. despite nearly 7 years of acting training, I am a very bad liar. but hey, there is a difference between acting and lying, and it's what separates the "good" from the "bad" in my opinion. I also have trouble keeping a straight face while trying to tell a joke.

4. I love listening to music old broadway musicals on my ipod while I work. Turned up very, very loud.

5. I'm a quasi-vegetarian. i was veg for about 5 years, one and a half of which was vegan, then texas and cheeseburgers happened, but i still only cook vegetarian. secretly it's because I have no clue how to cook meat.

6. here's one for thanksgiving... I was a dancer up until I went to college and during my senior year of highschool I danced in the macy's thanksgiving day parade. we wore neon unitards, but the middle was "flesh" colored so it looked like we were wearing crop tops. it was both one of the most embarrassing and one of the most awesome things I ever did. but why don't I have any pictures of this????

7. I have a birthmark in the middle of my head that causes the hair growing out of it to turn red. and everyone just thinks I dye this random streak of red into the middle of my hair. for the past fifteen years?! (it didn't appear until my hair darkened from blonde-blonde)

now I have to tag some other people. Here are the rules I followed...

1) Link to your tagger and list all these rules in your blog.
2) Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird.
3) Tag 7 people at the end of your post by including links to their blogs
4) Let them know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog

now I'm cheating here and only tagging a few people at the end of this post, but that is because I'm shy and hate de-lurking on people's blogs that I read... but here are my tags:

Ilana of yours truly, Brooklyn, who I used to work with in Bklyn and who I also talked to all day long about crafts and life issues. hah.
Rachel of Average Jane Crafter, who is another Austin-area crafter.
Linda of Linda Made, who I used to work with at Adorn.

i love you, too

I love this card from Night Owl Paper Goods so much I almost want to get that feather with the heart in it tattooed on me. I'm sensing a theme here... maybe I should just change this blog from pommes frites to "cute things kristen wants tattooed on her". no, seriously.

funfunfun

This past weekend I had a booth, along with my friends from Luster and Victrola Designs in the local retail section at Fun Fun Fun Fest. I think I have finally gotten all the dust out of my ears and most of it off the books...

As you can see I've started making pins! I'm thinking of doing "mystery pin packs" for the etsy shop. They are all made (with the exception of the plaid fabric ones) from encyclopedia images that I found as I carved my way through the encyclopedias, so each one is unique and in my opinion they are all pretty cute.

psst, and later I'll be posting some updates to my etsy shop, but here's a little sneak peak:

heck yes!

I've blogged about brookadelphia before when I bought their acrylic cut molar necklace, but now they have done me one better and made ANY STATE YOU WANT NECKLACES!!! Ya know I'm obsessed with Americana, what with giant state shaped pillows being one source of attention and income, but truth be told the reason why I became obsessed lies in the simple fact that I wanted pendant necklace of my home state of Virginia.

I scoured ebay but didn't find anything good and settled instead on a necklace that just said "Virginia", and then it was on to being pretty obsessed with getting a Virginia-shaped tattoo (to which my Mom actually said "well that's cute" but she still didn't give me money for my bday in fear that would appear on my skin somewhere).

So from brookadelphia you can get any state you want and any color and any length chain. I want one!!!

sparks

Happy (belated) Halloween. Tom and I went as Sparks cans. If you don't know what Sparks is, it's an alcoholic-energy drink that comes in three varieties: regular (orange), light/sugar free (blue), and plus (black).

I made our sparks costumes, scanning in a sparks logo and using iron-on fusing to attach it to fabric. Then Tom helped me tack the letters on for good measure. They are lined in quilt batting. Although they are not very well made in the scheme of things, I think they are pretty genius.

yay.
