If my last post was any indicator - I surprised my mom for mother's day, and was indeed standing outside the computer room window when she turned around. She cried, I cried, we hugged, laughed, talked for hours, drank too much wine and did some antique shopping. It was perfect!

After the surprise, the family hopped in the car and headed down to Middleburg, Virginia. Middleburg's main drag is lined with picturesque stone buildings, antique shops, random accessory stores, restaurants and wine bars. All the shops have flowers hanging out front and adorable ladies manning the counters. The stores are jam packed with treasures like mercury glass, glittery ornaments and bunches of lavender. In short... I have my retirement plan worked out.

We had brunch at the Red Fox Inn, a restaurant/B&B that boasts taxidermied foxes (of course), trout mousse crepes, and decor that is delightfully reminiscent of a hunting lodge. But not in a cheesy way - this place has been around forever.
And if you're ever out this way, you have to check out the antique shop called Bella Villa in Aldie, VA. It reminded me of my favorite antique store in town, Uncommon Objects. Rooms and rooms in a (somewhat?) restored house - be careful where you step - full of trinkets, treasures and glorious vintage. I'm pretty sure this is the antique shop that got my sister to start decorating her house in antique/vintage items - no, not my years of prodding.

While we were out there, it also struck me how amazingly green and lush Virginia is. Coming from Texas, Virginia was so green it was practically Ireland. It's funny the things you'll never notice about the place you grow up in.

I went home for Kansas over Easter this year, and felt the same way about the green grass! I kept telling me mom, "WOW the colors here are so bright!" Something I never appreciated in all the years growing up there. Poor Austin, send us some rain!!

jane - we got such a slight amount yesterday, we need more, right?!
cb - I agree! As I get older, all we end up doing is just sitting around talking, and I couldn't be happier just spending time together.
