My sister, mom and I (pretty sweet pants, huh?) circa 2002. This is one of my favorite pictures of us...
It is from her that I am blessed with my height (she is 6' tall! I come in at 5'11"), gift of the gab, tendency to cry frequently at sappy movies and commercials, unique sense of style, and ability to analyze dreams with ease. She is equal parts a mentor, therapist, and friend.
When I lived in New York, one of my favorite things to do was pop down and surprise my mom on Mother's Day (or for her birthday... or just because). New York is only a hop, skip, and a train ride away from Virginia. It's hard now that I'm further - Austin is more like a hop, skip, a jump, a taxi, and a plane ride away. Money and distance makes everything harder.
But sometimes... with some frequent flier miles, a 40-hour time block, and a dad and sister who help you conspire, a surprise is still possible. So Mom, if you're reading this - and I know you are, because I've timed it perfectly - go look outside.
