RCF Round Up: Mandatory Booth Display Pics

full booth

It seems like I change up my booth display for every craft fair I do, all while keeping the final goal of a "standard set up" in my minds eye. Three years of "what works... what doesn't", and I'm pretty happy with how RCF Austin's display came out. I set it up as I would a shop, if I were to ever own one: lots of dark wood and industrial metal detailing, cream colored fabric, vintage display accessories.

We even changed around our booth display from Day 1 to Day 2 (and I'll be honest, in the middle of Day 1 we had a big switcheroo!). It was awesome to have an entire booth, but I sometimes find people are "afraid" to venture in - probably cause they think we'll bite, or worse, pressure them to buy something. Which is the last thing I want to do, let alone have my customers think

In the end, I set up a table along one side and shelving along the other, with the middle flanked by a cream colored shag rug (brought from home).

I was most proud of the shelving we Tom built. What looks like metal pipe is actually PVC piping - and lots of spray paint! I didn't have the money to finance my dream shelving, with full metal piping (foot long pieces go for around $10 a pop), so we bought inexpensive PVC piping (10 feet for $1) and some PVC cutters and got to work. With some elbow grease (so. many. coats. of. spray. paint.), I think it turned out really lovely! The best part is - it's fully collapsible. I drive a VW Golf so everything I bring to a show must fit inside.

The wood shelves were the most expensive part of the bookcases - they came in around $40 for eight pieces of wood. Tom helped me out by hand staining them a beautiful espresso color. So, with many trips to Home Depot, a free weekend, and the desire to work into the wee hours of the night, this DIY collapsible PVC bookcase was born!

This is PVC! What up!!

Some more little details...

table with owls and pins/magnets

fake tealights for lighting the bookcase
Fake tealight candles to add some inexpensive light & detail to the bookcases

I feel like this is 90% closer to the "final booth set up" Pommes Frites will have... so maybe someday, I will stop showing you a bajillion pictures of it. Maybe. But probably not.

Your shop looked great at RCF. I peeked in but was afraid I would buy something. I found that people are more likely to go in a craft booth if you are not there or just outside of it. I wonder how to set up the booth so that people feel that way and still know you are there to help..... Thanks for sharing!

tina, I totally agree! A couple times I would leave my booth and go talk to my neighbor, next thing you know, there's a full swarm in the booth! It's a tricky thing to figure out.

I love this shelving! Care to post a more detailed step-by-step of how you built it?
