The DIY That Could-Have-Been

The other day some guys were in our yard cutting down tree limbs for the electric company. Like, a lot of tree limbs. What ended up happening looked something like this:

cut branches

Poor trees. The last thing our little house needs is less covering. Then, off to the side, I spotted these awesome birch-looking logs. Ok, they aren't really log-logs, but to a city girl like me, this was the most awesome thing I could ever find in my own front yard.

I started dreaming up the possibilities of what these logs branches could become. Stuck into a basket for rustic decoration? Cut into tiny tiny sections and water sealed to become coasters? Cut into larger sections and carved to be place holders? Wait why did I need place holders, when I don't even have a dining room table?

And then it hit me. If I picked up these branches they would forever be included of the "DIYs that Could-Have-Been" drawer/corner/closet of death, along with my dream catcher makings, 100+ skeins of yarn, and never-used notepad that reads "THINGS TO MAKE".

So I pulled myself together and let the tree trimmer guys cut those babies into tiny pieces and cart them away.

Two days later I realized they would have made the most amazing base for my DIY indoor cat tree.

What would you have made with these branches? Or, have you ever taken something weird with a promise that you'd one day, DIY it?
