New from Pommes Frites: Ring Pillow Book Safes

So excited to finally announce my new ring pillow book safes! This is a project I've been working on for a long time, but they are finally live. Each book has been specially picked for its looks and title, and then I've placed a handmade ring pillow inside. The ring pillows are made of silk dupioni and velvet ribbon! You can also use the book as a wedding keepsake spot after the wedding.

I also think these would be an awesome way to propose to your sweetheart! I've had a couple people do custom orders already for this very purpose and it always melts my heart a little.

DIY Friday: Mini Pumpkin Votive Holders

DIY pumpkin votive holders

This is a great DIY project to make with those leftover Halloween mini pumpkins! Plus, it's as easy as carving the lid off a pumpkin. See below for a quick tutorial.

Materials: Sharpie or pen, votive, knives (a steak knife worked great for me!)

Step One: Trace a circle around the votive onto your pumpkin

Step Two: Carve the top of your pumpkin - just like you would when you're making a jack o'lantern. Since this pumpkin is so small, be careful not to carve all the way through!

step three: scoop all those mini seeds out of the inside

Step Three: Now, if you just sit the votive in the pumpkin, it would be too short and melt the edges! So, take the lid (cut off the excess seeds off the bottom) and turn it upside down in your hollow pumpkin.

Step Four: Set your votive inside, et voila!

I think these would look really cute with those small striped pumpkins. Add a couple around the Thanksgiving table and boom - instant Autumn decoration!

Patchwork Long Beach & Culver City

patchwork indie art & craft festival

I've been in a craft fair frenzy over here for the past couple weeks*, prepping for my very first West Coast show! I'll be participating in two Patchwork Indie Art & Craft Festivals - one in Long Beach and one in Culver City. If my experience a couple weeks ago in DC is any indicator, I can't wait to meet a new market with Pommes Frites. While I miss my loyal Austin customers, there is something extremely exciting about a sea of fresh faces. Plus, an outdoor show in balmy weather ain't nothing to complain about!

If you live in the area, be sure to make it out to one of the two shows (or the Santa Ana one!) The Long Beach show is this Sunday from 11-5 at the Marine Stadium. Culver City is the following Sunday from 11-5 at Helms Bakery. Whoop!

*BTW, I'd really like to make a post about an upcoming craft fair one time (JUST ONCE!) that doesn't begin with some rambling dialogue about the crafty maniac I've been as of late. Seriously, will I ever stop being a maniac leading up to shows? Or in general?

Ring Pillow Book Safes & A Surprise Proposal

A while back, I had the opportunity to participate in a wedding shoot with a very special twist involved. The unsuspecting model just assumed it was another day at work with her boyfriend (a model couple, what!), acting out a fake proposal and wedding. But, he actually used to the shoot to propose for real, and used a PF book safe, natch!

Full details here. Stay tuned this week, as I will be releasing a new, limited edition line of book safes. And, if this post is any indicator, they may have something to do with rings. And weddings.
